From Father to Father – Boredom as the Best Motivation

Von Vater zu Vater – Langeweile als beste Motivation

Interview with Swiss comedian and author Karpi (Patrick Karpiczenko). Written by Melanie Gath.

His real name is Patrick Karpiczenko. The Swiss comedian, author, director, and film producer is better known as "Karpi." The 38-year-old lives in Zurich with his wife and their daughter.

As part of our "From Father to Father" interview series, namuk founder Franz and Karpi met at the Owl's Nest in Zurich's Seefeld district to chat about the importance of nature for families, the role of a father, and the challenges of daily family life.

"How long does it take for your family to leave the house?" "Putting on socks can be a half-hour affair. Or longer," Karpi tells Franz in the interview. And once they're finally outside, he might be half-frozen while his daughter wants to keep playing for hours. He says, "Those are the challenges – for me."

One topic I found particularly fascinating in our conversation was how to deal with boredom. Karpi says that nothing motivates him more than boredom – in his childhood, it often sparked the most fantastic times. How about you – how do you see it? Learn more about why Karpi believes that children don’t need to be constantly entertained, but often just a little imagination and nature, in the video:
